Since Cyprus' accession to the European Economic Union on 1st May 2004, all residents of the EU, including Cyprus, can purchase and own property anywhere in the EU without restriction, whether it be for their own use as a home or as an investment property. The Turkish republic of Northern Cyprus, the TNRC, however, is currently considered occupied territoy that is beyond the law of the EEU, so although EEU law still applies there it is currently impossible to enforce property judgements. As a result prospective property purchasers of investment property in Northern Cyprus should excercise special care and seek expert legal advice before proceeding with a TRNC property purchase. An investment property in Northern Cyprus may turn out to be a costly future liability until the current diplomatic stalemate for the island is resolved.

House insurance in these circumstances requires expert help and advice. Home insurance in Cyprus should not be complicated or difficult to acquire but depending on where you require the home insurance, either in Northern or Southern Cyprus, proceed with care.
